THERMALITO, CA (MPG) - At 6:58 pm on Sunday, April 12th, or Easter Sunday, a vehicle carrying 3 adults and two children plunged into the Thermalito Dam Canal.

According to a CHP Press Release, the 2004 GMC Sierra, driven by 27-year old Sacramento resident Colby Allen Brookman, was heading westbound on Grand Avenue, west of Gold Country Lane, at a high rate of speed Sunday evening. Due to his speed Brookman was unable to stop where the roadway ended, causing the GMC to leave the roadway where the pickup collided with a fence before slamming into an embankment and becoming airborne. The vehicle came to rest in the Thermalito Dam canal.

Brookman and passenger Jlynne Stothers, 23, who was riding in the front, were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle but a 32-year old male adult and two female children, ages 1 year and 7 months, were stuck in the back of the vehicle. Emergency personnel were able to free the passengers, but they were in terrible shape. The adult passenger sustained fatal injuries from the collision and the two children were transported to Enloe and Oroville Hospitals with major injuries. The minors succumbed to their injuries the following morning.

Brookman was placed under arrest for Felony DUI, Felony child endangerment and Vehicular manslaughter. Brookman was transported to Oroville Medical Center, where he remains in CHP custody.
