"Super Happy Awesome News," A Virtual Musical Featuring Applause Kids!
Oct 30, 2020 12:00AM ● By David Read, Yuba Sutter ArtsMARYSVILLE, CA. (MPG) – Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture is pleased to announce that their Youth Theater Program, Applause Kids!, is back and they have prepared a fantastic new show for the community. It is called “Super Happy Awesome News!” and you will not want to miss it. The young actors have been meeting weekly one-on-one via digital rehearsals with Director, Alex Mazzerole, to work on scenes, acting techniques and songs. The “premier” watch party will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 6pm, free on Yuba Sutter Arts’ Facebook page! The show will also be available for later viewing on Yuba Sutter Arts’ YouTube channel as well as on Facebook.
The musical is about two siblings who launch rival “good news” networks and find themselves competing for the title of “Happiest News Show.” Soon, their correspondents are in a whirlwind of ecstatic musical reporting – from joyful weather forecasts, to cheerful cooking segments and blissful political updates! But, when vulnerability starts peeking through the euphoric facade, they are left wondering: is there room for raw honesty on a super happy broadcast? This show was created this year as a virtual musical, so the format lends itself well to an online presentation. The music and story are fun and students all over the country have been having a blast performing it.
The mission of Applause Kids! is to help nurture students who may have done some acting and want to do more. It is also for young people interested in learning more about theatre, but who may not have had the chance to experience acting in school or with other outside programs.
This year’s edition of Applause KIDS! is led by well-known performer and teaching artist, Alexandria Mazzerole. Alex grew up in Yuba City and performed all over town including as a member of Adventist Healthy Kids. She has worked as a performer at both U.S. Disney theme parks and interned for CBS Radio. Alex has been a Fox 40 assignment editor and has a degree in Communications from Sacramento State.
Next up for the Applause Kids! will be a holiday performance of “Elf, The Musical, Jr.” Watch for an audition announcement in early November. The program will be shown on December 11 and 12.
