LATHROP, CA (MPG) - The Sutter Union Huskies’ baseball team had their season end at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship as they were defeated 8-3 by the Bradshaw Christian Pride on Wednesday, May 22.
Bradshaw Christian avenged their loss to Sutter from 364 days prior in the 2023 D-V Championship as it took over four-and-a-half hours and 13 innings before the Huskies celebrated at Sacramento City College.
Although the game changed venues at Islanders Park in Lathrop this year, the Pride didn’t let up and had their focus on winning their second D-V title in three years.
Sutter started the game out great as senior pitcher Rylan Giovannoni blasted a double into left field to start the game off. Huskies junior outfielder Carson Bishop laid down a bunt to the third base side for a base hit and advanced Giovannoni to third.

Bradshaw Christian answered back in a hurry as they ended the first with a 3-1 lead from getting four hits.
Pride junior pitcher/Stanford commit Davis Wiser was dealing from the mound as he began a stretch in the second inning where he retired 11 Huskies hitters in a row.
Giovannoni was relieved in the second inning as senior pitcher/Hawaii signee Jagger Beck took the ball for the next 3.2 innings on the mound.
The key part of the game was the bottom of the third where Bradshaw Christian built a good lead as they added four runs.

Sutter junior outfielder Carson Bishop (3) lays down a bunt in the first inning of the Huskies’ 8-3 loss to Bradshaw Christian on Wednesday, May 22.
Beck was able to get the first couple outs of the inning quickly, but he let the next six base runners reach base, including three hit-by-pitches and a key error contributed to the four-run inning which gave the Pride a 7-1 lead.
The Huskies got a couple runs back in the sixth and that was the end of their charge as Wiser retired the side in the seventh for the victory.
As emotions took course from the field to the stands, the 2024 senior class at Sutter accomplished a lot of success on the diamond.
Accomplishments included two Pioneer Valley League titles, SJS Division V champions and 2023 CIF Division IV NorCal champions.

Beck, Giovannoni, Yacavace and 2024 infielder Jordan Lee walk away from the program as multi-section champions and winner of three straight league titles as the Huskies were previously in the Northern Section.
The quartet expressed to the Dispatch postgame that there were plenty of great memories they all shared on a ball field/grid iron with one another.
Lee said it wasn’t always about the sport they played together but just being around one another as they have grown up with each other and made memories.
Sutter head coach Stewart Peterson told the Dispatch that the class of 2024 seniors were a selfless group that focused on the team first before anything else.
He is excited for what the seniors choose to move on to for the next part of their journeys in life.
As hugs/love continued in the first base dugout from the final huddle to packing up gear, smiles were endless. Peterson told the Dispatch in a previous interview that Giovannoni was the first player to enter the dugout and always the last to leave.
That statement from over a year ago stayed true as Giovannoni was the last Husky to leave the dugout.
