Race Car Legends Coming to Yuba City

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - On Sept. 28, the Northern California Sports Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary by inducting 10 professional-level athletes into its Hall of Fame.

Five of the most successful race car drivers as well as five other professional athletes in their respective sports will be included.

Leading the race-car drivers are Scott Pruett (Indy Car, NASCAR, and 24-hour Endurance record-holder), Bill McNally (Napa Motor Racing Team Champions), Jerry Bartlett (local driver who holds most of the racing records at Marysville Raceway), Mel Hall (posthumously, who made significant improvements to Marysville Raceway when he took it over) and Pat Clements. 

Athletes in other sports include Pat Gillick (Oroville native who was the MLB general manager for two World Series teams), Bill Plummer (posthumously, who was in professional baseball for 52 years and known as the back-up catcher for Johnny Bench during the Reds World Series victories), Darryl Stephens (Major League Baseball), Larry Prewitt (MLB player from Auburn area and coach at Placer High), and Leon Donahue (posthumously played for lineman for the 49ers during the ’60s and eventually became athletic director at Shasta College).

The Hall of Fame event will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building located at 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle in Yuba City on Saturday, Sept. 28 (doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m.).  Tickets cost $40 each or reserved tables for eight for $300.
