MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - On Oct. 7, Marysville City Councilmember Dom Belza was named an Honorary Co-Chair for the Yes on Prop 36 campaign for the City of Marysville.

Proposition 36 aims to revise key provisions of Prop 47 that have led to a growth in homeless encampments, increased drug use, and the spread of retail theft.  Prop 36 includes increased penalties for certain drug crimes, reduces the current monetary threshold for felony theft, and gives law enforcement the tools it needs to get people off the streets and into treatment. 

Belza has been influential in building support for the Yes on 36 campaign. He has spent countless hours collecting signatures to get Prop 36 on the ballot, building a coalition of business owners to support Yes on 36, and assisting the campaign with fundraising and voter outreach.

Belza issued the following statement, “Living in a small community, we deal with the impacts of drug abuse and homelessness every day. Businesses and residents are fed up with Sacramento tying the hands of law enforcement. This is why Prop 36 is so important to me and for all law-abiding Californians. Now is the moment We the People can course correct by voting Yes on Prop 36!”

Earlier this year, Belza found himself “protecting and serving” the community in a way not typical of a local city councilman. Belza was quick to react after he and the Mayor of Marysville were assaulted in broad daylight. The incident made national headlines on Fox News.
