Honkers Heading to Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - On Friday, Nov. 1, The Yuba City Honkers varsity football team lost a home conference game against the Nevada Union Miners by a score of 33-20. The loss in the final game of the regular season brought the Honkers’ season record to six wins and four losses, which was good enough to earn Yuba City the eight-seed in Division 4 of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Football Playoffs.
The Honkers will be hosting the first playoff game on Friday, Nov 8, against the Sierra Timberwolves at 7 p.m. (after press time). The Timberwolves will be traveling up from Manteca and come into the playoff game as the Division 4 nine-seed, with a season record of 5-5.
Sierra is led by senior quarterback Zak Wilson who has tallied 21 touchdown passes this season, and senior running back Brock Felt with 11 rushing touchdowns and one receiving this season.
The Honkers’ offense is led by senior quarterback Jordan Martinez who has tallied five touchdown passes and six rushing touchdowns this season, and senior running back Peter Ithurburn with five rushing touchdown this season.
The winner of the playoff game will then have to travel to Lincoln to take on the number one seeded, and undefeated, Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos, on Friday, Nov. 15.
