MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Caltrans is alerting motorist that the City of Marysville will close multiple city streets from 1 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 for its annual Christmas Day Parade. These closures will impact both local and through traffic traveling on State Route 70 (SR-70).
The closure will impact the detour due to the Hotel Marysville fire in June that required the closure of SR-70 from 3rd Street to 6th Street, reducing highway capacity by half on SR-70 for vehicles entering Marysville. All streets within the parade zone, marked by a red-dotted boundary on the map, will be closed.
Detour and Alternate Routes:
Drivers are advised to use Simpson Lane and State Route 99 as alternate routes to avoid delays.
Local traffic should use 3rd Street or 4th Street for access around closed areas (see attached map).
Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Road condition updates and detour information will be provided through Caltrans District 3’s social media and Caltrans’ QuickMap or the QuickMap app.
The traffic shift will be from 39th Street to 24th Street, redirecting traffic to two left lanes and three right lanes. The left two lanes will then split again, with one lane to the left of the concrete median barrier and one lane to the right. The new traffic shift is required to allow crews remove the existing pavement, install drainage, lower the roadway for increased clearance under the overcrossing bridges, and rehabilitate the highway with reinforced concrete pavement on the current #1 and #2 lanes.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
The department will issue updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic information, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
