SUTTER, CA (MPG) - The Sutter Junior Shooters earned two second-place finishes at the California Youth Shooting Sports Association Junior State Trap Championships, held at Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City, Nevada.

The team placed second in the Schools Division and also earned second place as an Intermediate Entry (IE) squad during the state competition.

Sutter Junior Shooters serves youth in eighth grade and below and operates as a junior team of the Sutter High School Shotgun Team. Participants compete in trap, skeet, sporting clays and Olympic bunker trap through the California Youth Shooting Sports Association.

The second-place Schools Division team included Kimber Benzel, Kailey Crabtree, Arlo Eubanks, Isaac Collins, Chase Sanchez and Logan McCracken.

The second-place IE squad consisted of Benzel, Crabtree, Eubanks, Collins and Sanchez.

Head coach Dave Samson praised the team's effort and performance throughout the competition.

"It was a great day of great performances by all on the team in all classifications," Samson said. "As the head coach I cannot be more proud of this team."

Samson said the program teaches more than shooting sports skills.

"This program not only teaches gun safety but the team concept, focus and proper mindset," Samson said.

The state championship brought together junior shooters from across California to compete in trap shooting events and recognize top-performing teams and individuals.
